Waka Waka Power is a best-in-class, durable and elegant solar-powered charging station and light. It’s the second edition of the Waka Waka Light, and was a runaway Kickstarter success that raised over $500K. The technology packed into this device, about the size of a small Moleskine notebook, is quite impressive. It’s one of the best portable lights available on the market, and you can use it to power most USB devices without ever needing to charge the Waka Waka. It can be used both indoors and outdoors, and with every Waka Waka Power sold, $10 is donated to support Stichting Vluchteling, a non-profit supporting Syrian refugees.

About the size of a small Moleskine notebook, the Waka Waka Power is impressively designed and built to take a beating. There are many smart components baked into the design: you can mount the light on a bottle or hang it from the ceiling, the base locks in place when you rotate it, and it’s compact enough to fit in your back pocket. Due to the exposed USB ports, it’s not 100% waterproof, but it doesn’t mind a light splash in the rain. The case is made of rugged plastic and the solar panels on the front absorb sunlight in even the most sun-deprived cities. You can even charge it indoors on a window sill. On an 8-hour solar charge, you can get up to 100 hours of light on low power, 40 hours on medium, and 20+ hours on high. It even has a smart SOS mode that can be quickly enabled by just holding the button down for a couple seconds. Most importantly though, the Waka Waka Power is hands-down the most efficient solar-powered battery backup, achieving 23% efficiency, which is incredibly high for solar, and it’s about twice as efficient as comparable products.
